Built around the set list
In a concert running order the songs matter as much as the acts. The template keeps both together:
- One row per act or item, with # for the number called on intercom
- Start and duration, so changeovers and curfew are visible
- The act’s name on the first line of the title cell, and its songs on the lines below
- Notes for sound, lighting, video and stage
The file is called run-sheet-template; in the UK the same document is often called the running order. More names in what a run sheet is.

How to write a running order the crew can follow
- 1Number every item, including changeovers and the interval.
- 2Write the songs under the act, one per line, in the order they are played.
- 3When an item is added, give it a number between its neighbours (6.5), so the numbers on everyone’s paper still match.
- 4Put the show, date, venue and a version number at the top, and change the version every time.
- 5Send the Excel or Word file, or a PDF exported from it.

From running order to grandMA3
Upload the running order to CueSetter: every item becomes a named cue in a grandMA3 sequence, numbered like the running order. Press Split on an act and each song becomes a sub-cue – 6.1, 6.2, 6.3. Sub-cues and decimal cue numbers explains the numbering.
